Dentures and Partials

The loss of multiple teeth can make daily activities such as chewing, speaking, and social interaction challenging. You may find it difficult to enjoy your favourite foods because of gaps in your bite.

The good news is that complete and partial dentures offer solutions for multiple missing teeth, whether you’re looking to replace a few teeth or an entire upper or lower arch. Here’s what you should know.

What Is a Complete Denture?

A complete denture replaces a full arch of missing teeth. A traditional full denture is removable, while dental implants can support a fixed denture that you don’t remove.

When you think about a denture, you may envision the kind that your parents or grandparents wore, which might not have fit properly. Today’s dentures are designed with careful consideration of facial structure and skin tone, ensuring the appliance provides exceptional function and appealing aesthetics.

A removable denture relies on a snug fit and suction to stay in place, and it may need adjustments and relining over the years to ensure proper fit and full function. You will also remove it at night while you sleep to soak and clean it.

An implant-supported denture is not removed, so you’ll brush it much like you did your natural teeth. The dental implants anchor to your jawbone, which provides the added protection of keeping it stimulated so you don’t lose density and experience the deterioration that occurs with traditional denture wear.

Why Replace Missing Teeth with a Denture?

Whether you need a full or partial denture, you’ll experience several benefits when you replace multiple missing teeth.
Better Function
Chewing and eating food is more comfortable and easier when your bite is complete and properly aligned.
Proper Bite Alignment
A partial denture keeps your remaining teeth from shifting into the open spaces, preventing bite misalignment.
Enhanced Nutrition
When you can comfortably chew and eat food, your diet and nutrition improve.

Frequently Asked Questions

An implant-supported denture is a type of denture that attaches securely to dental implants placed in your jawbone, rather than simply resting on your gums like traditional dentures.

The process begins with our dentists at Singleton Smiles surgically placing several small titanium posts (dental implants) into your jawbone. These implants act as artificial tooth roots and, over the following months, fuse with your natural bone through a process called osseointegration. Once this healing is complete, we attach special connectors to the implants that allow your custom-made denture to click securely into place.

The Benefits of Implant Dentures in Singleton

Implant-supported dentures offer significant advantages over conventional dentures. Because they're anchored to implants, they don't slip or move when you eat or speak, giving you greater confidence in social situations. They also allow you to enjoy a wider variety of foods, as the secure fit provides much better chewing function. Many patients find them more comfortable because there's less pressure on the gums and no need for denture adhesives.

Another important benefit is that dental implants help preserve your jawbone by providing stimulation that prevents bone loss, which commonly occurs with traditional dentures over time.

What Is a Partial Denture?

A partial denture is a removable appliance with prosthetic teeth strategically placed to fill in the gaps left by missing teeth. A partial allows you to maintain your natural, healthy teeth while restoring bite function and smile aesthetics with prosthetic teeth where needed.

A partial denture can also be supported with dental implants.
