Orthodontic Treatment

At Singleton Smiles, we’re thrilled to offer comprehensive orthodontic treatment for adults and children, delivered by Dr Kate Lowe. That means we can straighten your teeth and look after the health of your smile during orthodontic treatment in one convenient location, working with the team you already know and trust.

Orthodontic Treatment Explained

Dr Lowe provides comprehensive orthodontic treatment, including braces and clear aligners.

Traditional brackets and wires are attached to your teeth and adjusted every few weeks to gently move your teeth into alignment. We offer braces in metal and clear ceramic materials for those who want more discretion during orthodontic treatment.

Clear aligners are removable, custom plastic trays that use pressure to move teeth into alignment.

Dr Lowe will evaluate your needs and determine which type of orthodontic treatment will help you meet your goals.

Why Should I Straighten My Teeth?

Besides the aesthetic benefits of orthodontic treatment, there are several additional advantages to straightening your teeth.
Better Bite Function
When your teeth are properly aligned and your bite is corrected, you may chew with more ease and comfort.
Easier Home Care
Teeth in proper alignment are easier to brush and floss, which can make your home care more effective.
Prevents Damage
Teeth that are correctly aligned function in the way they were designed, which may prevent fractures or damage.
Alleviates Pain
Bite misalignment can cause jaw tension and pain. Orthodontic treatment improves bite alignment.
Enhances Nutrition
When your bite is aligned and you can properly chew your food, it may improve your diet and nutrition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Children should receive their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7 or 8, as some benefit from early intervention. At this age, your child typically has a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth, which allows our dentists at Singleton Smiles to assess how the jaw is developing and whether there are any concerns that might benefit from early attention.

Understanding Early Orthodontics

It's important to note that not every child needs early orthodontic intervention. Many children can simply be monitored until they're older and all their permanent teeth have come through. However, children who are candidates for early treatment may experience concerns such as tooth crowding, obtrusive overbite, protruding underbite, jaw growth concerns or crossbites.

When early treatment is appropriate, it's conducted in phases. The first phase focuses on bite and function, addressing issues with jaw development and creating proper space for incoming permanent teeth. This phase takes advantage of your child's natural growth patterns to correct jaw alignment or create space in crowded arches, making future tooth alignment easier and more efficient. The second phase typically occurs around age 12 or 13 and concentrates on straightening and aesthetics once most or all permanent teeth have erupted.

During routine dental visits at our Singleton dental clinic, our dentists monitor your child's dental development and will let you know if an orthodontic evaluation would be beneficial. We're committed to serving families throughout the area and ensuring every child receives the right care at the right time for their individual needs.

It’s Never Too Late to Straighten Your Teeth

If you’re an adult living with crooked teeth, bite misalignment, overlapped teeth or gaps and spaces between teeth, you may be able to benefit from orthodontic treatment to correct bite and tooth alignment.

The best way to determine whether orthodontic treatment is right for you is to book an evaluation with Dr Lowe.  She will use photos, x-rays and a thorough exam to gather information about your smile and create a treatment plan that suits your needs.

She’ll review your options with you, as you might be a candidate for clear aligners or other treatment. You will leave your consultation with a clear understanding of your treatment options, timelines for completing your treatment, and what it will cost, so there are no surprises along the way.

We aim to help you make informed decisions for your smile.
